The Search for Better Water Quality
When I first began considering how shower water impacts health, I realized I needed a solution. Typical shower tap water often contains chemicals like chlorine, heavy metals, PFAS and microplastics.
These toxins can be absorbed through the skin and negatively affect your health and damage your skin and hair over time. That’s when I started looking into shower water filters.
The Weddell Duo filters are capable of removing contaminants like chlorine, heavy metals, PFAS and particulates, making your water safer and healthier for you. Read more about PFAS in water here.
This shower filter is NSF certified, meaning it meets strict safety and performance standards. More on that later.
But does it live up to the hype? In this review, I’ll break down the features, performance, and overall value to help you decide if it’s worth the investment.
Transparency is extremely important to me, so I want to let you know that the company sent me the filter to try in exchange for an honest review. All opinions here are completely my own, based on my personal experience.

The Importance of Using a Shower Filter
If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent years filtering your drinking water but never thought about the water you use to shower.
Many people don’t realize that unfiltered shower water can contain chlorine, heavy metals, and other chemicals that can be absorbed into your skin.
These chemicals are health concerns, and they can cause dryness, irritation, and even exacerbate skin conditions like eczema.
Incorporating a shower water filter can significantly reduce these contaminants, leading to a healthier (and more pleasant!) shower experience.

Benefits of Filtered Water for Showering
Filtering your shower water offers a range of benefits, including:
- Healthier Skin: Reduces dryness and irritation caused by chlorine.
- Shinier Hair: Prevents damage and brittleness often linked to harsh chemicals.
- Improved Air Quality: Fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in steam means fewer harmful substances inhaled during your shower.
With these advantages, it’s clear that investing in a water filter for your shower can lead to healthier routines.

Features of the Weddell Duo Shower Filter
Dual Filtration System: The Key to Clean Water
The Weddell Duo uses a combination of activated carbon filter and multi-stage filtration to remove chlorine, PFAS, particulates, and odors for healthier skin, hair, and scalp.
The clear cartridges indicate when it’s time for a replacement, ensuring consistent performance.
Certified and Tested Contaminant Reduction
The Duo is the only shower filter NSF-certified to reduce Free Available Chlorine, with verified results for PFAS, particulates, and other contaminants.
Most other filters can’t match this level of assurance. Information about third-party testing data can be found here and here.
Here are just a few details:
- NSF Certification: Certified to NSF 177 and 372 standards.
- Third Party Lab Testing: PFAS and particulate reduction verified by IAPMO Lab under NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 standards.
The Weddell filter’s certifications confirm the contaminant reduction of chemicals like chlorine, PFAS, and particulates. I’m all about having real third-party test results to prove whether a product’s reduction claims are true!
Dermatologist Approved
The Weddell Duo is dermatologist approved, making it a trusted choice for sensitive skin and scalp concerns. It’s clinically tested to improve skin hydration and scalp health.
I was recently diagnosed with eczema, so I was glad to learn about these benefits!
Minimal Impact on Water Pressure
The Weddell Duo is designed to maintain strong water pressure. It has a maximum flow rate of 2.8 GPM, which is higher than the pressure of most standard showerheads.
However, if pressure decreases over time, it’s a sign the filter needs replacing to maintain optimal performance.
I didn’t notice any reduction in water pressure at all.
Long Lifespan and Clear Cartridge
The 8,000 gallon filter life outlasts many other filters on the market.
The clear cartridge design lets you see when the sediment filter needs replacing.
I love seeing the clear side get darker, because I know it’s removing the contaminants from my water! (Am I strange?)
Compatibility with Different Showerheads
Another impressive aspect is its compatibility with a variety of shower heads. Whether you have a handheld, fixed, or rain showerhead, the Weddell Duo should fit seamlessly.

Installation: Getting It Set Up in Minutes
Step-by-Step Guide to Installing the Weddell Duo
Due to a dislocated shoulder, I was unable to reach the shower head, so I observed my husband install the filter.
The process was so simple and straightforward that I’m confident I could have done it myself if I had the use of both arms.
It took less than 5 minutes and was hassle-free, requiring only a wrench for our stuck shower head. Everything (except the wrench) was provided in the box.
Here are basic instructions, however the directions that come with the water filter are more in-depth.
- Remove your exiting shower head by turning it counter-clockwise.
- Wipe off the threads of your shower arm with a towel.
- Remove the plastic cap off the bottom of the Weddell Duo filter.
- Connect the Duo shower filter to the shower arm.
- Wrap 2 full turns of the included plumber’s tape around the bottom of the Duo filter.
- Reconnect your showerhead to the bottom of the Duo filter.
- Turn on the water and let it run for 3 minutes to flush out dust or buildup.
